Description

Yard Waste

The City of Postville yard waste collection program runs April – October on select Mondays. Yearly schedules available at city hall beginning in April.

All yard waste must be set out at the curbline before 7 AM. Street crew will pick up as able.

Yard waste is composted. Place in cardboard boxes or paper bags only the following:

  • Leaves
  • Grass clippings
  • Garden waste
  • Bark
  • Nuts
  • Pinecones

Commercially manufactured “Lawn and Leaf bags” are available for purchase at John’s Hardware. Bags and boxes should not weigh more than 50 pounds. Leave bags open at top. Any other means of packaging yard waste will not be accepted and left on the curb.

Tree branches will only be picked up on select dates in April, May, September, October. All other times, property owners are responsible for delivering any trimmed tree branches up to 6 inches in diameter and cut into 4 foot lengths to the designated drop off location at the compost site.

Compost Site

For those citizens wishing to deposit yard waste at their own convenience, the compost site located at the south end of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Co-op Drive is open:

April – November 7 AM-4 PM Monday – Sunday

Please deposit yard waste in designated areas only. No plastic, garbage, rocks or construction materials.

There is no cost for compost, there is a loading/delivery charge.

Loading charge

  • $20/pickup truck load (size determined by Street Department)
  • $30/loader bucket full – delivered (in town)

Delivery charge

  • $20/truck load (in town)
  • $50/truck load (5 mile radius of town)
  • Current IRS rate mileage (beyond 5 mile radius of town)
